Partner 10. C2RMF - Centre for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France.


The Centre for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France (C2RMF) is the national research centre in France responsible for the documentation, conservation and restoration of the items held in the collections of more than 1,200 museums across France. C2RMF also carries out extensive scientific studies and data recording for these collections, and is active both nationally and internationally in the field of cultural heritage conservation and analysis. C2RMF is involved in the development of technologies and scientific procedures employed in the preservation of art works and artefacts, both on its own and in partnership with other museums and research institutions across the globe. C2RMF has in particular a large expertise and scientific training on the fields of colorimetry, visual aspects, imaging systems, microtopography, patrimonial applications, light and lighting for museum.

Key Persons

 

Michel Menu: Head of the research department. Since 1980 research engineer in the Research Laboratory of the French Museums. Within national and international projects, he developed several methods to understand the technical properties of the works of art as well as of archaeology and also to better conserve them inside the museum galleries. The main issue is the collaborative research undertaken by curators/art historians, archaeologists, conservators and scientists in order to elaborate a common approach for the comprehension and for the conservation of museum artefacts. During time, he specialised in the study of painting materials and of the colour. As head of the laboratory of the C2RMF, composed by 50 permanent scientists of various specialities, he acts as promoter of a comprehensive scientific art history.


Clotilde Boust: Assistant professor in color and digital imaging. Clotilde Boust received her engineering degree in photography from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière, France in 1998. After working for two years as color consultant in the press industry and one year as researcher in the Vision laboratory of the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, she began a Ph. D. in image quality with Océ Print Logic Technologies and Paris VI University. She is now researcher in visual appearance since 2006 in C2RMF and work on color, gloss and roughness measurements for different cultural heritage objects.


Jean-Jacques Ezrati: Since 1982 he works as lighting adviser for the French Museums administration. In 2001 he joins C2RMF where in addition to the above function he participles to research works, like engineer, in spectrocolorimetry and microtopography. Teacher in lighting and colorimetry for many professional and academic establishments. Member of the International Council of Museums ICOM, of the International Commission on Illumination CIE, of the French Association of Illumination AFE and of the French Association of Lighting Designer ACE. He published a large number of articles on Museum and exhibition lighting.
